For an established financial institution in Hamburg, we are currently looking for an experienced Legal Counsel  (m/f/d) with a focus on General Banking Law.

As part of the central Legal function, you will advise business and corporate functions across a broad range of legal matters relating to banking operations and transactions. The position offers significant exposure across the organization and the opportunity to work on both day-to-day legal matters and strategic projects in a highly professional environment.

Your tasks

• Provide comprehensive legal advice to business and corporate functions across the bank
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts and other legal documentation
• Advise on the establishment, management and termination of contractual banking relationships
• Provide legal guidance on payment services, lending and credit-related matters
• Advise on matters relating to deposit protection and banking regulatory law
• Support the implementation of new legal and regulatory requirements, including EU legislation
• Advise on data protection, competition law, trademark matters and protection of trade secrets
• Handle legal matters relating to estates, attachments, information requests and other banking-related topics
• Review and amend general terms and conditions, forms and contractual templates
• Support legal aspects of cross-functional projects and other special topics
• Handle commercial register matters in Germany and internationally
• Coordinate and collaborate with external counsel in Germany and other jurisdictions
• Support the enforcement and defence of legal claims where required

Your profile

• Fully qualified German lawyer (Volljurist / two German State Examinations), ideally with admission or eligibility as a Syndikusrechtsanwalt
• Several years of relevant professional experience, preferably within a bank, financial institution or banking-focused law firm
• Strong understanding of general banking and commercial law; experience across several of the above-mentioned areas is highly desirable
• Strong affinity for technology, digital processes and IT-related topics
• Ability to navigate complex legal matters and translate them into clear, pragmatic and commercially viable solutions
• Structured, independent and solution-oriented working style
• Strong analytical and organizational capabilities
• Confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across different functions and seniority levels
• Excellent German and English language skills, both written and spoken
• Intercultural awareness and willingness to travel occasionally within Germany and internationally
