Our client, a globally established banking institution with a German universal banking licence and a strong position within the European payments and clearing infrastructure, is looking to appoint an Appointed Compliance Officer & Compliance Team Lead (m/f/d) to strengthen regulatory governance at its Frankfurt hub. The role combines official regulatory responsibility with hands-on team leadership in an international banking setting.
Act as the formally appointed Compliance Officer, responsible for overseeing and managing the bank’s regulatory compliance framework in line with German and international supervisory requirements.
Lead and manage the Compliance function and team, ensuring effective implementation of policies, controls, and monitoring procedures across the branch.
Conduct comprehensive compliance monitoring and thematic controls covering corporate lending, trade finance, financial markets activities, and transaction banking.
Perform annual and ad-hoc compliance risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies aligned with regulatory expectations.
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior management and business units on regulatory developments, governance matters, and new product initiatives.
Design and deliver compliance training programmes for employees and management, promoting a strong risk and compliance culture.
Oversee regulatory audits, internal reviews, and strategy implementation within the Compliance framework.
Provide legal support by reviewing major business decisions, contracts, and operational structures to ensure regulatory alignment and legal feasibility.
Draft, review, and negotiate agreements and legal documentation to safeguard the institution’s legal and regulatory position.
Extensive knowledge of German and European banking regulation, including KWG, MaRisk, MaComp, and payment services frameworks (PSD2/ZAG, SEPA/TIPS).
Proven track record as an officially designated Compliance Officer or senior compliance lead within a regulated banking environment.
Leadership experience with responsibility for managing compliance teams and driving governance initiatives.
Strong background in regulatory strategy, audits, and implementation of compliance programmes.
Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to operate at senior management level.
Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CRCM, CAMS) and legal academic background preferred.
